I have published more than 60 articles in prestigious international journals and I have (co-)supervised more than 20 M.Sc. dissertations on a variety of combinatorial optimization problems related to routing, scheduling, clustering, portfolio selection, classroom assignment, computer networks, quadratic assignment, autonomous vehicles, conference scheduling, and music. I have more than 4700 citations on Google Scholar and a h-index of 35. According to Villegas et al. (2023), my name is listed as one of the most prolific authors (#12) in the field of Operations Research and Management Science in Latin America.  In addition, according to the AD Scientific Index 2024, I am ranked  #6 (Brazil) and #11 (Latin America) in the field of Decision Science and Operations Management.  Moreover, I am member of the Editorial Advisory Board of Computers & Operations Research (since 2019), and a Senior Editor of "Optimization and Operational Research" at the Journal of the Brazilian Computer Society (since 2024).

Life

I was born and raised in João Pessoa, Brazil. My parents are Indian immigrants who came to Brazil in the early 1970s to work at UFPB after a 7-year period in Canada. I am passionate about rock music, most notably classic, hard, pop, soft and progressive rock, and I (poorly) play multiple instruments like guitar, ukulele and piano.  In addition, I have a great interest in sports like Formula 1, soccer and chess. My favorite authors are Carl Sagan and Oliver Sacks. In addition to science and the mind, I love to learn about miscellaneous history, ancient cultures and random curiosities. I have traveled to 24 countries in America, Europe and Asia. Finally, some say that I have a witty sense of humor :-).
